ALS signed “Bob, Robert Stroud, #594,” one page, lightly-lined both sides, 8 x 10.25, Alcatraz prison stationery to which he adds his full name and prison address at top, November 10, 1952. Letter to his friend, bird breeder Fred E. Daw. In part: “I am sure the real reason…doesn’t want the microscope is because he has learned that it involves a complicated technique. Like many people, he probably thought that you just put a bird under the microscope and see the germs. I was never sold on the budgerigar fad myself. They were sure to over-breed their market. The red factor will come back, and those who sold pout will be kicking themselves. You take the red-factor bred to a good type, and you have something. You have to produces ten…for each good bird for a few years, but once you get good birds, there is no danger of a fad flooding the market, for they have to breed.” In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds, some light toning, and a couple ink and pencil notations.
